February 20 – March 2, 2012

Weeks 26 & 27

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.  Want an easy way to help your child practice math facts?  Go to www.xtramath.org and sign your child up.  This program has a great parent monitoring tool that allows parents to see which days their child practiced and how well they answered the questions.

2.  Our site visit is March 13-15.  At 5:00 on the 13th, the state team will meet with parents to ask questions about your experience with MMC.  If you would like to be a part of the parent group, please call Mr.Brandhorst at 376-4172.

3. All students will start their day in Marcus on Monday, March 5 so we can tape the intro for our site visit video.  All students should be in the high school gym and ready to go by 10:15.

     4. How are student-learning data monitored at the building level and how is that data used to inform instructional decisions?  Students are given formative assessments such as Dibels Reading Probes, District Math Probes, and Dibels Math Probes three times per year.  The results of these assessments are used along with classroom performance and teacher observation to make decisions about which children need interventions and what interventions should be used.  Iowa Assessments for grades 2-6 and our second reading and math assessments in 4th grade are used to monitor student progress (again looking to see if interventions are needed) and to monitor our curriculum.  Data is analyzed at the individual student level and at the grade level to make sure our curriculum is effective in helping students achieve at high levels.  Data is also analyzed by sub groups such as socio-economic level, sex, special needs, and ethnicity to ensure we are meeting the needs of each of these groups.
